Matchlessantiques is offering collectors and smiths this 352 lb. BADGER/DUDLEY? Blacksmith Anvil. The markings on the side appear to include the words "BADGER" and "DUDLEY" which is an unlikely combination. If this anvil is a Badger, it was made by the American Skein & Foundry Company of Racine, Wisconsin. The anvils' trademarks were stamped on the table of the anvil and are almost always destroyed by use (info credited to Anvils In America written by Richard Postman). It might be a Dudley based on the second word in the final picture. Please take a close look at the pictures.
This anvil is in poor condition. The rebound is poor but still workable. The uneven surface of the face and horn are a telltale sign of someone heavily working with hot metal on the same area for too long. The edges are badly chipped. The only clear weight mark is "16", the final number using the English stone weight system. So the rest must read "3 0 16" bringing the weight to 352 lb., just over the actual weight of 343 lb.
NOTE: This auction is for the 352 lb. BADGER/DUDLEY ? ANVIL ONLY. The cart it's displayed on and the tools in the background ARE NOT INCLUDED in this auction.
